NAIDOC
National NAIDOC Week celebrations are held across Australia in July to celebrate and recognise the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. The Celebrations provide an opportunity to learn about First Nations cultures and histories and participate in celebrations of the oldest, continuous living cultures on earth.
NAIDOC week is an important event in the Celebrate Ageing calendar. We want to learn more about Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people's culture - particularly about respect for older people. Each year at NAIDOC we reach out to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Elder Artist to ask them about their art, what NAIDOC means to them, what being an Elder means to them and how respect for Elders is shown to them.
