Turbulence
Turbulence is a series of intergenerational collaborations in which older LGBTI people share stories about the turbulence of ageing and how connection with younger community members has helped to promote their safety and wellbeing and sense of hope. Their stories are documented in 5 short films, which are heartwarming testaments to the transformative power of intergenerational connection within LGBTIQ+ communities.
The Turbulence project is an initiative of Celebrate Ageing's Centre for Intergenerational Power. The films were produced in collaboration Midsumma Festival and supported by the Victoria State Government, Families, Fairness and Housing, Pride Events and Festivals Fund Grant and Franklin Image.

Dorothy and Jac
Dorothy married the love of her life two years after Marriage Equality was achieved and 45 years after they fell in love. Jac was a campaigner for marriage equality. The two women write to each other about identity, love and marriage.

Kathy and Jay
Kathy's later life transition in a small country town was complicated. Kathy worked Jay, an artist and dancer, to explore her emotional transition and her sense of self.

Kaye
Kaye was a respected teacher and paid particular attention to nurturing her Queer students. When a community member suggested she should not have contact with children (because she is a lesbian), Kay reminded herself to stand tall and be proud of who she is.

David and Beau
David is a survivor of HIV/AIDS from the 1980s and writes with Beau to create a virtual community of support for people living positive. Thanks to Living Positive Victoria for supporting the production of this film. Thanks to NAPWHA for featuring a story on David and Beau (here)

Max and James
Max survived 180 days of isolation thanks to the food, medical supplies and emotional support provided by James, his neighbour. The two men have a very strong bond. Max has developed a flyer for anyone interested in becoming a volunteer, click here.
