There's a Rainbow in My Family
Some families go for half a century before a Rainbow appears. The Rainbow may come as a complete surprise, or may be no surprise at all. Sometimes families rejoice - others need time to adjust. There's a Rainbow in My Family is an intergenerational podcast about the constructive ways families adjust when an older person becomes a Rainbow. We hope these stories will help build a world where older LGBTIQ+ people can be their authentic selves and bring their families along with them.

Happy Birthday Sal Sally and Manika Conning Like most siblings, Sally and Manika Conning have their ups and downs. That shifted on Sally’s 65 birthday when Manika sent her a card that read “Happy Birthday Sal, I’m glad I’ve got a sister”. Those words resonated powerfully for Sally, who had just “come out.” The kindness shown by both women, and their commitment to give-and-take, has challenged the shame and secrecy of “family trouble” and strengthened their bond. Sally and Manika value their shared history and understand how shifting their perspectives on family have led them to a wonderful sibling friendship.
